Profile

The Japan Association of Global Governance is an academic association founded in March 2012. As transnational issues have emerged in various dimensions such as security, finance, development, global environment, human rights and health issues, international regimes and norms are being formed and transformed accordingly. Concerning such past and present phenomena, the Japan Association of Global Governance aims to promote interdisciplinary research, presentations of research outcome, and member exchanges in fields such as International Relations, International Politics, International Economy, International Sociology, International Organizations, International Law, Political Science, Administrative Sciences, History, and Area Studies.

      5000 Yen for Standard Memberships

The 5th Anniversary Memorial Project of the Japan Association of Global Governance

The Japan Association of Global Governance founded in 2012 has planned various projects in honor of its 5th anniversary in 2017.

  • The Incentive Award of the Japan Association of Global Governance

The Japan Association of Global Governance has established an Incentive Award as a

  • Publication of Global Governance Studies, I. and II as a memorial project in honor of the 5th anniversary of the Japan Association of Global Governance (to be published in February 2018)

The contents are as follows:

Global Governance Studies I: Theory, History and Norms,

Satoshi Oyane, Hideki Kan and Yasuhiro Matsui eds., Houritsu Bunka Sha, 2018

 Focusing on the state of international order, it provides an outlook on global governance. By reexamining concepts of global governance and analytical discussions based on them from the current point of view, this volume consists of chapters in order of theoretical discussions, historical development and international norms. As part of the memorial project in honor of the 5th anniversary of the Japan Association of Global Governance, this volume represents the foremost research results.

 Global Governance Studies II: Actors, Regions and New Dimensions,

  Hirotaka Watanabe, Koji Fukuda and Motoko Shuto eds., Houritsu Bunka Sha, 2018

  Focusing on the state of international order, it provides an outlook on global governance
Based on institutional developments and changes related to global governance, this volume consists of chapters on perceptions and behaviors of various types of actors, linkage with regional governance and transnational issues. As part of the memorial project in honor of the 5th anniversary of the Japan Association of Global Governance, this volume represents the foremost research results.

 Major Activities of the Japan Association of Global Governance

Annual Congress

  We hold an Annual Congress at which members present their latest academic research findings and have discussions with participating members. In the general session, we provide presentations on common topics and have discussions which are open to the public. In Panel Sessions, members give presentations on specific topics and conduct discussions. There are other sessions such as the Open Session, which is open to any topic and is especially aimed at early-career members, and the Brown Bag Meeting (BGM), which aims to promote academic dialogue and exchange among members.ツ

  • The 12th Annual Congress is held on the campus of Kobe University, on 11 and 12 May 2019.
  • We are now accepting proposal submissions for our 2019 annual Congress both for individual proposals for Open Session and Panel Session proposals (minimum four papers)

  Members of the Association who wish to submit individual proposals for Open Session or panel session proposals are requested to download the form below and submit it to the secretariat.

Publication of The Study of Global Governance 

 The Japan Association of Global Governance publishes The Study of Global Governance as its bulletin. This journal contains articles not only on concepts and theoretical studies on global governance but also on a variety of transnational issues such as security, global environment, development and poverty, countermeasures against such common agendas of human beings, development of the international order and international norms, overall development of international norms, related empirical and theoretical studies on trends of international organizations, individual states, local governments, corporations, NGOs, and civil society organizations. Members are eligible to submit an article to the journal Global Governance at any time. Appropriate peer reviewers make decisions regarding whether a submitted article is to be accepted for publication.
